When it comes to hiring a carer for someone you love, asking the right questions can make all the difference.

This isn’t a casual hire. It’s not about finding someone to fill a few hours. It’s about inviting a person into your home — your life — and trusting them with the wellbeing of someone who means the world to you.

But if you’ve never arranged care before, you might not know what to ask. Or you might be afraid of asking the wrong questions. Or — more likely — you’re just exhausted and overwhelmed and wishing someone would take the lead for you.

At Care with Confidence, we already have.

We’ve asked the hard questions. Checked the fine print. And done the digging — so you don’t have to.

Still, if you’re speaking with a provider (or even with us), here are the most important questions you should be asking — and how we’ve already answered them for you.

“Are they background checked and fully vetted?”

This is the bare minimum. Every carer should be able to provide:

  • A current enhanced DBS check (or local equivalent)
  • Proof of identity and right to work
  • Verified references from real, recent clients or employers

We’ve already asked. Every carer in our network has passed strict background and identity checks, and we speak personally with their referees — not just read form letters.

“Are they trained and qualified for what my loved one needs?”

Experience isn’t one-size-fits-all. A carer might be brilliant with mobility care, but less experienced in dementia support or end-of-life care.

Ask about:

  • Safeguarding and first aid certifications
  • Dementia care, palliative care, or specialist training
  • Experience with similar needs to your family’s

We’ve already asked. We review all certifications and match carers based on both skills and relevance. If someone doesn’t have the training your loved one needs, they’re not on our list.

“What’s their personality like — will they get on with my loved one?”

This one’s harder to ask, but equally important. You don’t just want someone who can do the job — you want someone who will connect.

Ask:

  • How do you match carers to clients?
  • Will we meet the carer before care begins?
  • What happens if the personality match isn’t right?

We’ve already asked — and observed. We interview carers personally, looking not just at what they can do, but how they do it. We listen to how they speak, how they carry themselves, and whether they lead with empathy. Every match we make considers personality, routine, and personal preferences.

“What happens if our carer is ill, away, or not the right fit?”

Unreliability can be distressing — especially when a vulnerable person is depending on that visit.

Ask:

  • Do you offer backup carers?
  • How do you handle absences or sudden changes?
  • Can we change carers if something doesn’t feel right?

We’ve already asked. Every provider we work with has contingency plans in place. And if you ever feel a carer isn’t the right fit, we’ll work with you to make a change — quickly and kindly. You’re never stuck.

“How will I know what’s happening day to day?”

Communication is key. You deserve to know what’s happening in your loved one’s care — even if you’re not there in person.

Ask:

  • Do carers keep notes or logs?
  • Will I receive updates or check-ins?
  • Who can I call if I have a concern?

We’ve already asked. We only work with providers who offer clear documentation and communication. And Care with Confidence remains involved in every care arrangement — checking in regularly to make sure your needs are met and your voice is heard.

“What are the costs, and what’s included?”

Money conversations can feel uncomfortable — but clarity is vital.

Ask:

  • What’s the hourly rate or package cost?
  • Are there additional charges (e.g., travel, holidays, weekends)?
  • Is there a contract or minimum term?

We’ve already asked. All costs are explained upfront, with no hidden fees. We’ll talk you through your options and make sure everything is crystal clear — no jargon, no pressure, no surprises.

“What support is available if things change?”

Life doesn’t stay the same — and care shouldn’t be rigid.

Ask:

  • Can we adjust the care plan if needs increase or decrease?
  • Can we book extra visits at short notice?
  • Will you help us review care regularly?

We’ve already asked. Our entire model is built around flexibility. We stay in touch with you, revisit care plans as needs change, and offer additional support whenever needed. You’re never left to manage alone.

What You Don’t Need to Ask — Because We Already Have

When you work with Care with Confidence, we’ve already asked:

  • “Would we trust this carer with our own family?”
  • “Do they show up on time — every time?”
  • “Do they treat clients with dignity, even when no one’s watching?”
  • “Would we feel comfortable having them in our home?”

If the answer to any of those is no, we don’t approve them. Simple.

Final Words

Choosing care is hard.
Asking questions shouldn’t be.

At Care with Confidence, we’ve built our entire approach around giving families peace of mind — not just through kind words, but through real action.

We ask the hard questions behind the scenes, so all you have to ask is this:

“When can we start?”

We’re ready when you are.
