From one heart to another — we see you.

Dear Carer,

You may not know it, but you’re carrying a weight most people never will.
And lately, it might feel like no one notices — like your effort, your energy, your whole self is quietly being poured out into others with very little left for you.

You go from visit to visit.
You soothe.
You lift.
You explain.
You clean.
You feed.
You stay longer when you’re needed.
You go back in when no one else will.

And somehow, even with all that — you feel like you’re fading.

Invisible.

Overlooked.

Forgotten.

If that’s you right now…
We want you to know something very important:

You are not invisible to us.

We See You.

We see you holding back tears on hard days so that your client doesn’t notice.

We see you dealing with short-staffed teams, broken rotas, and families who expect you to be superhuman.

We see you feeling alone in the most people-focused job in the world.

And that’s the painful irony, isn’t it?

Caring can be lonely.

Because you’re so focused on everyone else, people forget to check on you.

So let us be the ones to say it:

Thank you.
You matter.
You are enough.

You Are Not Alone — Even If It Feels That Way

One of the most common things we hear from carers in the Big Sister network is this:

“I love what I do, but sometimes I feel like no one cares about me.”

The long hours. The emotional toll. The financial pressure. The lack of recognition.

It piles up.

But what we’ve also seen — across hundreds of care businesses and thousands of staff — is this:

Connection heals.

That’s why we built Big Sister.
That’s why the Resilient Carers movement exists.
To bring light back to those who feel like they’re running on empty in the shadows.

You Deserve Support (Not Just Scrutiny)

Carers are held to high standards — and rightly so. Lives depend on you.

But who’s holding you?

Who’s asking if you’re okay?

Who’s helping you feel safe, seen, and supported?

At Big Sister, we believe carers deserve:

  • Respect, not just responsibility.
  • Praise, not just pressure.
  • Rest, not just rota changes.
  • Community, not just compliance.

You are not a robot.
You are a human being with your own needs, hopes, and heartaches.

And you deserve care too.

If You’re Reading This, Please Know:

  • You’re doing better than you think.
  • The way you show up matters — even if no one says it out loud.
  • You are making an impact every single day.

Just because they don’t say “thank you” doesn’t mean your kindness goes unnoticed.

Just because you’re tired doesn’t mean you’re weak.

Just because today was hard doesn’t mean you’ve failed.

You Don’t Have to Keep Going Alone

We know the system doesn’t always support you.
We know the job is bigger than most people realise.
We know you’re doing your best.

That’s why we’re doing our best to support you.

  • We create blogs like this — because your wellbeing matters.
  • We host YouTube videos just for carers — check out our Resilient Carers playlist at @bigsistercare
  • We celebrate #Resilient Sister Day every month — so you feel part of something bigger.
  • We share real stories from real carers — so you know you’re not alone.

A Few Reminders to Carry with You

Write them down. Stick them on your mirror. Say them out loud if you need to.

  • I am doing meaningful work.
  • I am allowed to rest.
  • I am not alone, even when it feels that way.
  • I am a carer, and that is something to be proud of.

Finally, Dear Carer…

We see you.

We value you.

And if you’ve forgotten your own worth, let this be your reminder:

You matter — not just for what you do, but for who you are.

Keep going, but don’t forget to pause.

Reach out if you need support.

Let yourself be seen.

With deep respect and care,
All of us at Big Sister
xx
